Serena Williams Discloses Donation of Excess Breast Milk: 'Someone Out There Is Benefiting From Some Exceptional Nourishment.' The tennis pro expresses excitement about contributing to those in need.
Serena Williams is extending her support to families facing challenges.
On Wednesday, the 42-year-old tennis sensation shared that she had donated surplus breast milk she had accumulated during a recent trip to New York.
"After going through a screening, I was able to donate it instead of taking the milk home," Williams wrote in the caption of an Instagram video. "I know so many amazing women that adopt or are unable to produce milk. It felt amazing. BTW Someone out there is getting some super soldier milk. ðŸ¤."
In the video, Williams can be heard off-camera as she opens a freezer, revealing multiple packets of breast milk.
Expressing her enthusiasm about the donation, she stated, "I'm really excited to donate this milk to people who really need it."
Before closing the freezer door, Williams added, "It'll be anonymous, but I'm super excited to just help in some way."
"One Instagram user jokingly commented, "Some kid's backhand just got stronger."
Others commended her contribution, with one user sharing a personal experience, "My baby is adopted and ended up having severe dairy allergies, so we relied on donor milk. It was such a gift to us, and I'm always so grateful when I think about it! ❤️."
Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, welcomed their second daughter, Adira River Ohanian, in August. The couple's firstborn, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., also known as Olympia, was born on Sept. 1, 2017, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Before the arrival of their youngest daughter, Ohanian, 40, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about his confidence in expanding the family with the tennis champion.
"We've got everything basically good to go," Ohanian mentioned over the summer. "I think I've definitely forgotten what it's like to have a new one around, so it might be a rude awakening, maybe literally," he chuckled. "But right now, we're excited."
Before publicly revealing her second pregnancy, Williams announced her decision to step away from tennis on the September 2022 cover of Vogue.
