"Venus Williams expresses a yearning to team up with her sister Serena Williams again, reminiscing about their doubles matches as she watches the action at the Miami Open."

Venus Williams recently expressed her desire to reunite with her sister Serena on the doubles court.

The Williams sisters boast an impressive doubles record, having clinched 22 women’s doubles titles, including a remarkable 14 Grand Slam women's doubles titles. Among their prestigious victories are four Australian Open titles, two French Open and US Open titles each, six Wimbledon Championships titles, and three Olympic gold medals in doubles.

On Friday, March 29, Venus took to Instagram to share a glimpse of her watching the 2024 Miami Open women’s doubles semifinal match between Asia Muhammad/Alycia Parks and the second-seeded duo Erin Routliffe/Gabriela Dabrowski. In the clip, Venus expressed her sentiments, saying:

"As I'm sitting here watching Asia Muhammad and Alycia Parks, I can't help but miss playing doubles with my partner [Serena Williams] up there. But do we now play net chords in doubles? And did I just not know that?"

Regrettably, the match didn't end favorably for Asia Muhammad and Alycia Parks, as the second-seeded pair Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski emerged victorious with a score of 7-6(4), 4-6, 4-10, after an hour and 47 minutes of play.

The Williams sisters' last doubles triumph occurred at the 2016 Wimbledon Championships, where they defeated the fifth-seeded pair Yaroslava Shvedova and Timea Babos 6-3, 6-4 in the final. Their most recent match together was during the first round of the 2022 US Open, where they were defeated by Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova in straight sets.

French coach Patrick Mouratoglou commended the impact of Serena and Venus Williams in diversifying the sport's audience. In a September 2023 interview with CNN, Mouratoglou emphasized their significance in paving the way for people of color in tennis, describing them as global symbols of inspiration.

Serena Williams holds an Open Era record of 23 Grand Slam singles titles, including seven Wimbledon Championships titles, while Venus Williams has claimed seven singles Grand Slam championships, including five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open.

In their professional careers, the Williams sisters have contested each other 31 times, with Serena leading their head-to-head 19-12. Their encounters include 16 Grand Slam singles matches, featuring 11 finals.

Though Serena retired in 2022, Venus Williams remains active in the tennis circuit. Her recent appearance at the 2024 Miami Open saw her facing off against World No. 62 Diana Shnaider, succumbing to a 6-3, 6-3 defeat in the first round.

Additionally, Venus Williams and her father, Richard, reminisced about a particular match where the seven-time Grand Slam champion believed she "should have won."
