Today marks the birthdays of these two special pups, Picasso and Newt! 🎉🐾 Let's celebrate the joy and companionship they bring into our lives every day. Here's to another year of love, laughter, and countless tail wags! Happy birthday, Picasso and Newt! 🎂🥳
Picasso and Newt, both with distinct facial abnormalities, now call a sprawling 55-acre property in Eugene, Oregon, home, under the care of Liesl Wilhardt, the 53-year-old founder and director of Luvable Dog Rescue. Picasso, who tragically lost his siblings, found solace with Liesl in 2017, while Newt, facing his own challenges after losing his upper jaw, joined the family in 2021. Since their union, these two dogs have become inseparable.
Picasso, now five years old, was born with a malformed nose and suffered from Weymouth illness, resulting in an asymmetrical jaw growth, giving him a unique appearance reminiscent of a Pablo Picasso painting—hence his name. Despite this condition, which doesn't cause pain but presents challenges, Picasso found his forever home with Liesl.
Newt, on the other hand, faced a different set of challenges. Having lost his upper jaw due to a bite from his mother at just one year old, Newt's survival was nothing short of miraculous. Liesl reflected on the difficulties even basic tasks like breastfeeding presented due to Newt's condition.
Despite their odds, Picasso and Newt have found not only a home but also an enduring friendship in each other's company.
