Serena Williams took to social media to celebrate her husband, Alexis Ohanian, on the occasion of Reddit's Initial Public Offering (IPO) launch.
Ohanian, along with his friend Steve Huffman, conceived Reddit in 2005 with the vision of creating the 'front page of the internet'. The platform quickly gained traction, joining Y-Combinator, a prominent technology startup accelerator and venture capital firm. By 2006, Reddit was acquired by Conde Nast, a global media conglomerate.
Despite leaving Reddit's board of directors in 2010, Ohanian remained deeply connected to the platform. His return in 2015, alongside Huffman, marked a pivotal moment in Reddit's evolution.
On the day of its IPO, Reddit debuted on the market at $34 per share, raising a staggering $519 million and valuing the company at nearly $6.5 billion. The offering comprised 15.28 million shares sold by the company and an additional 6.72 million shares sold by existing shareholders.
Expressing her pride and admiration for Ohanian's journey, Serena Williams hailed his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication as both a husband and a father. She recalled how Ohanian's vision in 2005 materialized into Reddit, lauding his achievements as a businessman.
"In 2005, @alexisohanian envisioned an online community. That vision became Reddit, and today marks its IPO. Alexis, I am incredibly proud of you as a businessman, my partner, and a father. Congratulations on your IPO! It's inspiring to see the remarkable things you continue to pursue!" 🥳🎉
