Patrick and Brittany Mahomes Extend Support to 2 Girls Injured in Chiefs Parade Tragedy

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Patrick and Brittany Mahomes visited a family at Children’s Mercy Hospital affected by the mass shooting during the Kansas City Chiefs parade.

The Reyes family, who were among those impacted by the shooting on Wednesday, has two daughters, aged 8 and 10, whose names were not disclosed. Both girls sustained gunshot wounds to their legs during the incident and underwent surgery. They are expected to remain in casts for several months and are currently undergoing physical therapy to recover their strength and mobility.

Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old victim of the parade shooting, was related to the Reyes family. She was a beloved local radio DJ known for her involvement in the Hispanic community and her contributions to her neighborhood on the west side of Kansas City.

While the family is encouraged by their daughters' progress, they acknowledge that emotional healing remains a continuous process for all involved.

The girls were in the company of multiple family members when the gunfire erupted following the Chiefs rally at Union Station.

Expressing gratitude, the family released a statement, thanking the staff of Children’s Mercy Hospital and Patrick & Brittany Mahomes for their compassionate care and support.

The shooting occurred after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally, with shots fired near the Union Station parking garage, resulting in multiple injuries, as reported by KCPD.

According to police, the shooting stemmed from a dispute and resulted in one fatality and 22 injuries.

Initially, three suspects were apprehended, including two juveniles who remain in custody. However, police later determined that a third suspect was not involved.

Court officials confirmed that the two juveniles are facing charges in juvenile court related to firearms and resisting arrest. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office stated that they would face adult charges if certified to stand trial as adults.
