Exclusive: Randi Mahomes shares insights into her experience raising Patrick as a young parent, revealing how it shaped her life positively.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE ahead of Patrick Mahomes' fourth Super Bowl appearance, his mother, Randi Mahomes, opens up about the journey of raising the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.

Randi, 48, reminisces about becoming a mother for the first time at a young age, emphasizing how having Patrick at 20 made her mature and provided her with direction. Despite feeling adrift before discovering her pregnancy in 1995, Randi acknowledges the transformative impact of motherhood, noting that Patrick's presence changed her trajectory for the better.

The mother-of-three, who shares Patrick, 28, and Jackson Mahomes, 23, with Pat Mahomes Sr., reflects on her initial uncertainties after leaving her parents' home post-high school. However, welcoming Patrick into her life marked a significant turning point, prompting personal growth and instilling a newfound sense of responsibility.

Randi, the youngest of four children, had no prior experience in child-rearing until Patrick's birth. Suddenly thrust into motherhood, she embraced the role wholeheartedly, cherishing the bond she shared with her eldest son, whom she describes as her "little best friend."

Patrick's birth in 1995, followed by Jackson in 2000 and Mia in 2011, brought challenges associated with the age gap between siblings. Randi initially worried about Patrick and Mia's relationship due to the disparity, but over time, all three children developed special bonds, with Patrick actively engaging in Mia's life, fostering a supportive dynamic among siblings.

Despite Patrick's success on the football field, Randi admits to feeling nervous whenever she watches him play, a sentiment shared by many mothers of professional athletes. However, her pride in his achievements outweighs the anxiety, as she eagerly anticipates watching him compete in Super Bowl LVIII.

As Randi prepares to attend the game at Allegiant Stadium, she reflects on the joy of seeing her children and grandchildren together, emphasizing that regardless of the outcome, being surrounded by family brings her immense happiness.

Randi's journey as a young mother highlights the transformative power of parenthood and the enduring bonds forged within a family, demonstrating the profound impact of love and support in shaping lives.
